The exhibition curated by GeoAIR that lasted one day in Tbilisi touched upon the heritage issues of socialist ideology inspired art, the artists and our evaluation of these today.
Mosaics as a form of political glorification and simultaneously as intricate and brilliantly executed decoration for public places, palaces and private residences was very popular not only with the communists. The mosaics of antiquity tell us their own history of heroes, emperors, battles and imperial conquests. From antiquity to the most recent past do we, artists or art experts ever learn from history? And how? The project "Lost Heroes of Tbilisi. Soviet Period Mosaics" and the catalogue to it explores why.
